How to choose between daily supply, short & long-term or permanent roles?

When looking for your next job in education, it can be difficult to decide what type of work you want to do, what will suit you best and what the differences between the contract types are. Here at Smart Teachers, we have a range of daily supply, short and long-term and permanent vacancies, so let us help you make your decision with our guide on what they all mean and which might be the right ones for you…

Daily supply

Most people will think of daily supply when they think of an education supply agency. It’s a very flexible option where you can choose which days each week you want to work. The work is mostly planned, but there can be emergencies when we may ask you to work on the same day. Perfect for anyone who wants to work part-time, but equally great for anyone who wants to work full-time and enjoys working in different environments, as you’ll often work in different schools each day. With daily supply you don’t tend to do the planning or marking, and many people enjoy daily supply because of the better work-life balance it brings.

Short-term & long-term

This type of supply is great for anyone who wants to spend a bit more time in a school. Anything short-term is more than one day – perhaps a week, 10 days or two weeks, and long-term contracts can be anything from six weeks or more. You’ll get a more in-depth experience in a school to expand your experience and skills, which is why many of our Early Careers Teachers choose this contract type.

Permanent

We can help you find a permanent teaching or support staff role which will give you stability, a yearly salary (usually paid monthly) and gives you the chance to build and develop relationships with pupils, colleagues and the school community.

How we’ll help you

Our friendly consultants have years of experience in helping people grow their education careers. They’ll be able to discuss the different options and opportunities available for you and help you find the best role for you.
