5 ECT induction top tips

If you’re due to start your Early Career Teacher (ECT) induction period soon, these top tips will help you feel prepared, confident and ready to go.

Utilise available support

Use the support around you as much as you need. Your induction tutor, mentor, department/school colleagues and headteacher are all there to develop you into the best teacher you can be. Don’t be afraid to ask them questions or seek advice to make the most of their knowledge and experience.

Stay organised

Getting organised will help you manage your workload effectively. With lesson planning, sourcing resources, marking and seating plans to do, you'll want to keep on top of it all. Getting a good diary to plan work and deadlines, saving and labelling files of past and future work, and creating a homework schedule are all simple things you can do to stay organised.

Seek online inspiration

Get inspired by using online teacher resources. There is a huge online community for you to join where teachers share their tried and tested lesson plans and discuss their top teaching tips, which you can adapt for your own classes.

Regularly self-evaluate

Regularly reflecting on your progress can aid your learning and growth. Ask yourself questions such as: What went well? What could have been better? What have I learnt? What could I do differently next time? What questions could I ask to further my understanding?

Prioritise your wellbeing

It’s important to look after your health and well-being. Practising resilience techniques, maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise can help you to thrive. Remember, making mistakes is part of the learning process. Learning from them will help build you into the teacher you want to be.

Good luck during your ECT and beyond, we know you will be a brilliant teacher. If you want to learn more about our ECT job vacancies, simply register with us today, we’d love to help you.
