Smart Teachers is working with a thriving 11 - 18 mainstream secondary school based in Haringey who is seeking an EAL/ESL specialist with a strong academic background in linguistics to support our EAL department in a temporary Teaching Assistant role.

About the role

The main focus of this role will be:

  • 1:1 support for a Looked After Child who is new to English, helping them develop Functional Skills, EAL, Maths, and key PSHE topics.
  • Adapting resources and tracking the student’s progress to aid their learning and cultural integration.
  • Providing general EAL support to other students as required.
  • Confident use of IT for lesson planning, tracking, and communication.

Requirements

To be considered for the role of EAL TA you will:

  • Background in linguistics, EAL, or a related field.
  • Experience supporting EAL students, ideally in a school setting.
  • IT-proficient and comfortable using digital tools to enhance learning
  • Arabic-speaking candidates are highly desirable (but not essential)

Salary is dependent on experience, training or qualifications. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are:

  • Suitable school based experience
